**Job Description:**

This role offers a unique opportunity to work with children and young people affected by domestic and family violence. As a Therapeutic Intervention Specialist, you will provide trauma-informed therapeutic interventions and counselling to support their recovery.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and deliver trauma-informed counselling and group work interventions tailored to the needs of each child or young person.

  • Support carers of child witnesses through advocacy and information sharing, ensuring they have access to the resources they need.

  • Engage in safety planning and crisis response as part of an integrated model addressing domestic and family violence.

  • Coordinate with police and other services through embedded response work, fostering effective collaboration and communication.

  • Facilitate community education and stakeholder engagement in the region, promoting awareness and understanding of the impact of domestic and family violence on children and young people.

  • Maintain accurate client records, reports, and data entries, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulations.

  • Provide occasional leave relief across Cairns, Atherton, Mossman, and court settings, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will possess a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling, or a related field, along with experience working with children and young people in a therapeutic context. A strong understanding of developmental stages across childhood and adolescence is essential, as well as a comprehensive understanding of the gendered nature of family violence and its specific impact on children and young people.

A practical knowledge of a range of counselling models, with emphasis on trauma-informed practice, is highly valued, as is experience with therapeutic modalities such as play therapy, sand tray, or movement-based approaches.
