About the Role">

We are seeking Official Visitors to oversee the welfare of inmates in correctional centres throughout New South Wales.

As an Official Visitor, you will be responsible for resolving enquiries and complaints made by inmates, and assisting in monitoring the conditions and treatment of inmates in custodial centres.

You will work closely with the Inspector Custodial Services team to ensure that the rights of inmates are upheld, and that they receive fair treatment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct regular visits to correctional centres to monitor conditions and treatment of inmates;
  • Resolve enquiries and complaints made by inmates;
  • Assist in maintaining accurate records of inmate grievances and responses;
  • Provide feedback and recommendations to the Inspector Custodial Services team on areas for improvement;

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills;
  • Experience working with diverse groups and individuals;
  • Familiarity with government policies and procedures related to corrections and rehabilitation;

About Us

The Inspector of Custodial Services is responsible for overseeing the inspection and monitoring of adult correctional facilities and youth justice centres in New South Wales. The role involves inspecting centres to ensure compliance with government standards and regulations, and reporting back to Parliament on findings.

The Official Visitor Program is an important part of this work, providing independent oversight and support to inmates in correctional centres. As an Official Visitor, you will play a vital role in upholding the rights and dignity of inmates, and contributing to the reform and rehabilitation of the correctional system.
