What's the job about?

Correctional Officers help keep our communities safe by supervising and managing inmates in correctional facilities, including prisons and court cells across NSW.

This stable, hands-on career values common sense, teamwork, and strong communication skills.

Your role might include :

  • Keeping inmates accounted for during routines like meals, headcounts, and movements
  • Monitoring safety or security risks and reporting concerns
  • Searching cells or common areas to maintain security
  • Supervising activities such as work programs or visits
  • Enforcing rules fairly and consistently

Role requirements :

  • Minimum age of 18 years
  • Current driver's license - P1 or above
  • Australian or New Zealand citizen or permanent resident
  • Willingness to complete Certificate III in Correctional Practice
  • Meet medical standards and have a reasonable level of fitness
  • Body art or modifications on the face, scalp, ears, neck, or hands are prohibited. For details, refer to the dress manual.
