The Assessment and Referral Court (ARC) List is commencing at Broadmeadows Magistrates' Court. We are seeking a Senior ARC Lawyer to join the team prior to its implementation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide high-quality legal advice and represent clients in the ARC and other Courts and Tribunals.
  • Mentor and supervise junior lawyers, supporting their professional growth and ensuring they understand the ARC processes.
  • Oversight of VLA duty lawyer services in the ARC and assistance in developing policies and strategies aimed at improving ARC services and access to justice.

This role involves working with individuals who have mental health issues, intellectual disabilities, acquired brain injuries, or other neurological impairments. You will require an understanding of the challenges impacting on people experiencing mental illness and cognitive impairment accessing services and other related systems.

Requirements:
  • Significant experience as a senior lawyer in the justice system.
  • An in-depth understanding of therapeutic approaches in addressing the needs of accused persons with mental illness or cognitive impairment.
  • Ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and with varying levels of cognitive impairment.

You will be responsible for delivering exceptional legal representation and guidance while maintaining a collaborative environment with your colleagues.

The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, excellent communication abilities, and a genuine passion for promoting access to justice for vulnerable populations.
