Youth Development Coach

This is a permanent, full-time position in our organization. We are looking for someone to join our team who is passionate about making a difference in the community.

About the Role

The Youth Development Coach will be responsible for delivering educational programs to students. This will involve working within a framework and coaching students to achieve their goals in education and employment.

  • Ensure effective implementation of educational models using a specific approach;
  • Oversee assessment and intake of new students;
  • Support students to develop individualised Learning Plans;
  • Meet with students at least fortnightly;
  • Plan and deliver activities;
  • Use resources to assist students achieve goals within their Learning Plan;
  • Connect students to right opportunities, resources, people and places to develop their talents and achieve goals;
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders;
  • Assist in collaboration with external organizations;
  • Maintain accurate case notes, complete administrative tasks and collect data;
  • Meet performance indicators;
  • Work within latest models of service delivery;
  • Assist senior employees;
  • Actively contribute to positive team culture;
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • An understanding of Housing systems including young people's pathways;
  • Knowledge of educational opportunities including vocational pathways;
  • Knowledge of multi-disciplinary issues relating to homelessness such as: poverty, unemployment, health, family violence, substance use and other social factors which impact on vulnerable people or at risk people;
  • Understanding of current housing market difficulties facing low income people trying to secure housing;
  • Concepts of social justice, social inclusion and empowerment and their application to practice;
  • Demonstrated skills in assisting people who are experiencing disadvantage including reflective practice;
  • High level interpersonal skills including ability to effectively engage with young people and range of stakeholders;
  • Client feedback and participation strategies, their application to practice and quality improvement process;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of community services sector and resources available for young people;
  • High level initiative, problem solving and resilience skills including ability to maintain positive outlook, see 'bigger picture', identify opportunities and implement solutions;
  • Well-developed writing skills including ability to maintain accurate, professional case-notes, write reports, collect data, prepare correspondence and provide required information;
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills with ability to manage own work flows;
  • Computer skills, in particular ability to operate work processing and database management;
  • Social Work degree or other tertiary qualification deemed equivalent, and/or clearly demonstrated experience.
