Transportation Coordination Specialist

About the Role:

The Transportation Coordination Specialist is responsible for providing call management services related to incoming calls from the public and other sources, as well as outgoing call notifications to Public Works staff. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond to incoming calls relating to complaints about highway infrastructure, concerns about the Department's operations, general road hazard advisories or seeking information and assistance to help address transportation related issues.
  • Monitor weather and road conditions, update an online condition reporting system, track department vehicle locations, and monitor various tracking and sensing equipment as well as security systems.
  • Frequently access multiple communications and information technology tools and databases to support these activities through computer aided dispatch and tracking systems.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Completed High School and have five (5) years of related experience or an acceptable equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Experience working in a fast paced contact centre environment and interacting with the public, emergency services and first responders.
  • Knowledge of computer software programs, such as the Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, as well as internet based programs.

Working Conditions:

Staff are required to work shift work with minimal supervision, available to work varying 12-hour shifts during daytime, evening and overnight shifts, including weekends and holidays. The facility is a 24-hour operation and is a tobacco free environment.
