Job Title: Research Scientist in Organic Chemistry

This position is a great opportunity for a researcher with expertise in organometallic chemistry to join our team. The successful candidate will contribute towards research as part of an ARC-funded Discovery Project, focused on synthesising and characterising novel organic and organometallic molecular wires.

The fellow will perform advanced organic and organometallic syntheses and use a wide range of analytical techniques to uncover the chemical design principles which control electronic delocalization in molecular wires. This role requires a high degree of autonomy and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct research in the areas of organometallic and organic chemistry, and molecular electronics
  • Perform and supervise chemical syntheses, including using air-free techniques such as glovebox and Schlenk line
  • Characterise the products of synthesis and study their properties
  • Write and maintain accurate and up-to-date laboratory notebooks

Additionally, the successful candidate will be responsible for contributing to the writing of scientific papers, reports, and research proposals, and for presenting results at national and international conferences. They will also participate in and/or present at conferences and/or workshops relevant to the project as required.

Qualifications:
  • A PhD or equivalent in inorganic or organic chemistry, with specific expertise and experience in organometallic chemistry (essential)
  • On-the-job training available for areas indicated as desirable
  • Air-free synthesis, including use of glove boxes and/or Schlenk lines (essential)
  • NMR spectroscopy (essential)
