Residential Support Worker

Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Residential Support Worker to join our team. As a key member of our mental health service delivery, you will play a vital role in providing quality support and services to individuals with mental illness who live in supported accommodation.

You will provide support that is client-focused, community-oriented, and sensitive. This may involve assisting individuals with maintaining key organisational and other relationships, which facilitate independent living, increasing access and equity for clients within a collaborative recovery model of psychosocial rehabilitation, and assisting individuals to improve daily living skills.

As a Residential Support Worker, you will have the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of others. You will be part of a dedicated team that is passionate about delivering high-quality mental health services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist individuals with mental illness to maintain key organisational and other relationships, which facilitate independent living.
  • Increase access and equity for clients within a collaborative recovery model of psychosocial rehabilitation.
  • Assist individuals with mental illness to improve daily living skills.
  • Encourage individuals to practice personal hygiene and educate on healthy living habits.
  • Encourage individuals to assist in daily household tasks.
  • Mentor individuals in building productive relationships and using effective conflict resolution strategies.
Requirements:
  • Minimum of Cert IV in mental health or community services related discipline (ideally a completed diploma or Bachelors)
  • Demonstrated effective listening, empathy and communication skills
  • Experience in working with people experiencing mental illness
  • Ability to think and act calmly and deal sensitively with distressed people
  • Understanding of the principles of duty of care, rights to privacy and confidentiality
