Indigenous Liaison Officer

This role is focused on providing direct support and assistance to both Clinicians within the Mental Health Division and to Indigenous patients, families and Communities across the region. The position is responsible for improving the delivery of culturally appropriate care to Indigenous patients, including supporting accessible and equitable health outcomes.

The purpose of this role is to achieve improved mental health outcomes for First Nations peoples accessing mental health services, as per the objectives of the West Moreton Health Equity Strategy.

About You

">
  • Ability to work effectively with Indigenous peoples (including patients, carers and communities) within a healthcare context and have a clear understanding of contemporary culture, protocols and health related procedures.">
  • Proven ability to sensitively communicate with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds while advocating on behalf of Indigenous peoples, particularly within a complex healthcare environment.">
  • Ability to communicate effectively (both written and orally), including preparing complex reports.">

Mandatory Requirements

">Vaccinated against certain vaccine preventable diseases (VPD).">It is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be Indigenous to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community.">

Key Responsibilities:

Support Clinicians within the Mental Health Division in providing culturally appropriate care to Indigenous patients, families and Communities.

Improve the delivery of culturally appropriate care to Indigenous patients, including supporting accessible and equitable health outcomes.

Develop and implement strategies to improve mental health outcomes for First Nations peoples accessing mental health services.

">

Collaborate with healthcare professionals and other stakeholders to improve access to healthcare services for Indigenous patients, families and Communities.

Provide education and training to healthcare staff on culturally safe practice and Indigenous health issues.
