About the Role

The R&D Textile Technologist plays a critical role in overseeing the development of raw materials for our corporate clients.

Key responsibilities include driving research and development of fabrics, trims, and technological advancements. This involves setting up and maintaining Raw Material Matrix and Tracker, sourcing and developing raw materials to meet timelines and product briefs, collaborating with the Design Team for clear communication on R&D projects, providing technical advice and support for fabric development, reviewing fabric test results and wear test samples, establishing and maintaining fabric and trim standards, ensuring all raw materials have specifications in line with company guidelines, signing off on colour and raw material performance test reports, and proactively researching fabric trends, innovation, and technology.

This is a key position that requires close collaboration with various teams to ensure fabric quality, performance, and pricing align with customer needs. Maintaining fabric standards and collaborating with stakeholders are essential aspects of this position.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain Raw Material Matrix and Tracker to ensure timely delivery of raw materials.
  • Source and develop raw materials to meet timelines and product briefs, considering factors such as cost, quality, and sustainability.
  • Collaborate with the Design Team to ensure clear communication on R&D projects, resulting in effective design and development of new products.
  • Provide technical advice and support for fabric development, including fibre selection, yarn production, knitting, dyeing, printing, and finishing techniques.
  • Review fabric test results and wear test samples to ensure they meet quality and performance standards.
  • Establish and maintain fabric and trim standards, including colour cards, fabric swatches, and trim samples.
  • Ensure all raw materials have specifications in line with company guidelines, including fibre content, weight, thickness, and other relevant characteristics.
  • Sign off on colour and raw material performance test reports to confirm compliance with quality and performance standards.
Requirements:
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in R&D required, preferably in textile, work wear, protective wear, and fashion industries.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of textile technology and textile manufacturing, including relevant qualifications.
  • Problem-solving attributes, including analytical and creative skills.
  • Knowledge of fibres, yarns, knitting, dyeing, print techniques, fabric properties, and garment finishing techniques.
