Make a meaningful contribution to the Safer Community Unit team as a Clinical Mental Health Specialist and Threat Risk Assessor.

The role involves assisting with the ongoing operation of the unit, playing a critical part in assessing, investigating, and managing problem behaviour and complex mental health presentations.

As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for conducting welfare checks, suicide risk assessments, and forensic assessments to provide specialist advice, recommendations, and reports to support staff and student safety and wellbeing.

You will apply an evidence-based best-practice approach to the risk assessment and management of concerning or threatening behaviour, as well as complex and high-risk mental health presentations, and sensitively manage incidents, focusing on early identification and intervention.

The ideal candidate will have experience in an educational setting or substantial relevant skills and work experience. A postgraduate qualification or progress towards one is required, along with extensive relevant experience in counselling, social work, psychology, nursing, or a related clinical or behavioural field; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training in a relevant field.

We estimate this role's salary to be around $85,000-$110,000 per annum, commensurate with experience. The university supports flexible and hybrid working arrangements, enabling staff to combine work and personal commitments. This includes supporting parents.
