About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team as an Accounting Policy Officer in the Financial Analysis, Reporting and Management (FARM) division of the Australian Government Department of Finance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and update guidance material and training for Australian Government entities on financial reporting and budget frameworks.
  • Analyse and interpret trends and movements in financial data.
  • Assist in providing stewardship of the accounting and finance profession across the Commonwealth public service.
  • Analyse and interpret accounting standards and other guidance to provide timely and accurate advice to stakeholders.
  • Assist with coordination of a range of administrative tasks, as required.
Requirements
  • A record of success in a similar role, being results-driven and outcomes-focused.
  • The ability to proactively gather and analyse information to produce high-quality advice.
  • Problem-solving abilities based on a questioning mind and an ability to think laterally.
  • Flexibility and willingness to apply themselves to tasks and successfully manage competing deadlines.
  • An ability to work effectively in a diverse team environment to achieve high-quality shared outcomes.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable Qualifications
  • CPA or CA qualification or progressing towards a qualification.
  • Experience in financial reporting, particularly assisting in the preparation of entity financial statements.

About the Division and Branch

The FARM division is a dedicated team of professionals who are passionate about shaping financial management and accounting policy advice to the Australian Government. We work collaboratively, celebrate our differences, and value each other's contributions. Our work is performed across three branches: Accounting and Frameworks Branch, Estimates and Reporting Branch, and Financial Management Branch.

The Accounting and Frameworks Branch works closely with other areas of the department and external stakeholders to provide high-quality, timely, and relevant policy and guidance, advice, and stewardship. We support Commonwealth entities in meeting their statutory budgetary and financial reporting obligations and provide guidance materials and accounting-related technical advice to support Commonwealth reporting entities preparing their annual financial statements.
