Next Generation Laser Development

We are looking for a skilled laser scientist to join our inertial team and contribute to the development of cutting-edge laser systems for mobile quantum sensors.

The ideal candidate will have expertise in fibre and free space laser systems, atom optics, atomic interferometry or quantum sensing, cold atom systems, gravimetry, etc. They will be responsible for developing state-of-the-art laser systems for quantum atomic sensing hardware, working closely with the broader Quantum Sensing division and leveraging expertise from quantum control engineers.

The successful candidate will have experience in designing and building ruggedised optical, laser, and photonic systems for field deployment, as well as scientific device design, construction, commissioning, operation, and data analysis of scientific devices.

  • Develop next generation laser systems for mobile quantum sensors.
  • Work closely with the broader Quantum Sensing division and leverage expertise from quantum control engineers.
  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop state-of-the-art laser systems for quantum atomic sensing hardware.
  • Analyse device designs, operational mechanisms, and control solutions for quantum sensors based on cutting-edge hardware.
  • Interact with hardware partners for integration of control techniques for sensor operation and data fusion.
  • Improve sensor performance in realistic environments by creating agile and robust laser systems.
  • Ideal Qualifications:
  • PhD in Physics, Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Experience working with fibre and free space laser systems.
  • Experience in atom optics, atomic interferometry or quantum sensing, cold atom systems, gravimetry, etc.
  • Experience with laser system design, construction, testing and field deployment.
  • Heavy weighting given to experience in designing and building ruggedised optical, laser, and photonic systems for field deployment.
  • Experience in scientific device design, construction, commissioning, operation, and data analysis of scientific devices.
