About the RoleThis Family Support Specialist position plays a crucial role in empowering families to achieve positive change. Working in partnership with families, you will facilitate the development of skills, knowledge, and capabilities necessary for effective family support.
Your primary focus will be on building strong relationships with families, understanding their challenges, and implementing interventions that promote self-awareness and personal growth. This role requires exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to adapt to diverse family situations.
Duties- Developing Parental Capabilities: Foster parenting skills and knowledge essential for promoting healthy child-rearing practices.
- Implementing Structured Routines: Assist families in establishing organised routines that enhance household management, healthy eating habits, and quality family time.
- Mental Health Support: Coordinate access to the ATSICHS Mental Health Service (Social Health Team) to improve parental stress management and overall wellbeing.
- Ensuring Developmental Milestones: Facilitate family engagement with paediatric/Mums and Bubs medical services, including specialist allied health supports, to guarantee children meet developmental targets.
- Economic Stability: Help families achieve meaningful employment and/or training opportunities to improve financial stability.
- School Attendance and Education: Enhance school attendance and educational engagement among parents.
- Early Years Engagement: Support families in enrolling children in Kindergarten and participating in early years playgroups.
- Family Safety: Ensure family safety by addressing potential risks and vulnerabilities.
- Housing Security: Assist families in maintaining stable housing through improved tenancy management.
- Substance Misuse Reduction: Collaborate with families to reduce AOD substance misuse.
- Annual Health Assessments: Coordinate annual preventative health assessments at ATSICHS medical clinics to improve family health.
- Dental Care: Arrange annual preventative dental check-ups at ATSICHS dental clinics to maintain optimal family dental health.

- A competitive starting annual salary of $94,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
- 11.5% Superannuation + Not-for-Profit Salary Packaging (increasing your take-home pay).
- Maternity leave contract with the potential to extend to full-time.
Successful applicants must possess:
- A current Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Human Services, Social Science, Health, Allied Health, Youth Work, Community Services, Family Intervention, or Criminology, accompanied by 4 years' relevant experience in family support, child protection, youth support, or a related field.
- OR a current Diploma in Community Services, Social Work, Human Services, Child and Family, Allied Health, Youth Work, Child and Family Intervention, coupled with 5 years' relevant experience in family support, child protection, youth support, or a related field.
- At least 3 years of abovementioned experience in a case management role.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a performance-driven environment and meet individual targets.
- Comfort working with high-risk clients and adapting to crisis situations.
