Digital Mapping of Cultural Economies: A PhD Opportunity

This scholarship is part of a research project that aims to create a digital map of Australian cultural practices, particularly those related to the arts. The successful applicant will contribute to this project by conducting original research and participating in the development of innovative methods for mapping cultural economies.
The project focuses on exploring and celebrating diverse creative practices, including traditional, community-based, and grassroots creativity. It also seeks to innovate methodologically by leveraging approaches from human-centred design and digital sociology to generate and engage publics with research insights.
The project outcomes include enabling digital mapping of the practices of Australians who participate in the arts as producers of forms such as poetry, music, and fine art, and their relationship with the professional cultural and creative industries.
Scholarship holders must be enrolled full-time and on campus. The applicant will be co-located between Action Lab in the Faculty of Information Technology and School of Media, Film and Journalism.
We prioritise applicants who hold an Australian (or equivalent international) Honours or Master's degree with a significant research component and first-class honours/H1 awarded. First Nations applicants are also encouraged to apply.
This PhD scholarship is a three-year opportunity to conduct research and develop your skills in digital sociology, human-centred design, and cultural mapping. We look forward to receiving your application.
