Environmental Sustainability Specialist

Maintaining a robust environmental management system is critical to our mining operation's sustainability and compliance. As an environmental advisor, you will drive regulatory adherence and support broader site initiatives.

You will work closely with leadership and mentor junior staff to deliver inductions and training on environmental awareness and responsibilities. Identifying and managing environmental risks is essential in this role, ensuring full regulatory compliance at all times.

Additionally, you will coordinate and report on statutory obligations, conduct site inspections and internal audits, and recommend corrective actions. Managing clearance activities, disturbance planning, and overseeing monitoring programs for groundwater, surface water, waste, dust, and noise are key responsibilities.

As a leader in this field, you will oversee incident reporting and investigation for environmental events and supervise environmental contractors, consultants, and mentor the environmental technician. Contributing to mine closure planning and progressive rehabilitation is also an important aspect of this role.

Finally, you will support community engagement activities on environmental topics and maintain site environmental tools, equipment, and consumables.

Responsibilities:
  • Maintain and improve the site Environmental Management System, plans, and procedures.
  • Deliver inductions and training on environmental awareness and responsibilities.
  • Identify and manage environmental risks and ensure full regulatory compliance.
  • Coordinate and report on NPI, NGERS, CPS, AERs, and other statutory obligations.
  • Conduct site inspections, internal audits, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Manage clearance activities and disturbance planning.
  • Oversee monitoring programs for groundwater, surface water, waste, dust, and noise.
  • Lead incident reporting and investigation for environmental events.
  • Supervise environmental contractors, consultants, and mentor the Environmental Technician.
  • Contribute to mine closure planning and progressive rehabilitation.
  • Support community engagement activities on environmental topics.
  • Maintain site environmental tools, equipment, and consumables.
Requirements:
  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar environmental role within the mining or resources sector.
  • Strong knowledge of WA mining and environmental legislation.
  • Proficient with GIS software and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to liaise across departments and contractors.
