Position Summary

In the role of Systems Safety Engineer, you will collaborate with other Engineering Authorities to engage with stakeholders, perform engineering evaluations, and assist in the approval process of Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs). You will apply advanced technical theories and methodologies to devise innovative solutions while being mindful of cost and schedule constraints.

This position also offers the chance to learn and share knowledge about System Safety Engineering methodologies and processes. With the support of the Engineering Manager, you will be part of our national Systems Engineering network. Working within a friendly team, you will address the needs of our primary customer, the Royal Australian Navy (RAN), while engaging directly with peers, Defence Force personnel, capability partners, subcontractors, and suppliers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the technical liaison among the customer, management, and implementation teams, conducting systems analysis to derive functional, performance, and interface requirements that meet safety standards.
  • Participate in System Design activities, including trade studies, to ensure compatibility of safety artifacts with the established product baseline across all subsystems, ensuring performance requirements are met.
  • Conduct technical risk assessments as necessary to support the development and review of hazard logs, safety case arguments, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Understand the methodologies, tools, and procedures related to systems safety engineering required to fulfill assigned tasks.
  • Collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders to uphold Raytheon Technologies' reputation as a trusted partner in delivering systems integration and mission support solutions.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant engineering discipline, such as electrical, electronic, structural, or mechanical engineering, with professional development sufficient to achieve recognition as CPEng or Chartered Engineering Technologist with Engineers Australia.
  • Experience in an engineering discipline, including involvement in one or more of the following practices: Requirements Definition, Management, Analysis, Design, and Verification and Validation.
  • Proven ability to effectively represent engineering professional services to both internal and external clients.
  • Availability to travel may be required for this position.

Candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain a NV1 Defence Security Clearance.
