About the Project

The West Gate Tunnel Project is a major infrastructure development that will deliver a vital alternative to the West Gate Bridge, providing quicker and safer journeys, and removing thousands of trucks off residential streets. The project involves:

  • Widening the West Gate Freeway from eight lanes to 12 between the M80 Ring Road and Williamstown Road;
  • Building a 2.8km eastbound tunnel and a 4km westbound tunnel under Yarraville;
  • Constructing a bridge over the Maribyrnong River providing an alternative to the West Gate Bridge;
  • Constructing an elevated road along Footscray Road to the Port of Melbourne;
  • Major new cycling and pedestrian paths.

Key Responsibilities

As the Project Engineer for the West Gate Tunnel, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Coordination and administration of construction engineering activities;
  • Assisting with the preparation of site construction reports;
  • Monitoring the construction progress for adherence to programme;
  • Ensuring that construction activities are in accordance with project specifications/drawings;
  • Interface and coordinate with other zones.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

  • Minimum 5 years mechanical engineering experience preferably site based;
  • Demonstrated experience in MVAC, Hydraulics, Tunnel Ventilation, Fire design, installation, and commissioning;
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Construction Management and Science etc.
  • Proven experience working on Tier 1 projects, tunnelling and/or open road specific experience.
