About the Opportunity

The Aboriginal Mental Health Liaison Officer will work across Infant Child and Youth Mental Health Service (ICYMHS) Directorate, collaborating with leadership and staff to achieve better outcomes for Aboriginal children and young people, their families and carers.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with ICYMHS leadership to develop culturally sensitive policies, practices and processes that promote positive relationships with the local community.
  • Supporting Aboriginal consumers and their families/carers to understand mental health treatment options and make informed decisions about their care.
  • Fostering partnerships with Aboriginal community-controlled health organisations to promote culturally safe mental health care.

To be successful in this role, you'll need:

  • A commitment to values such as respect, empathy and inclusivity.
  • Experience working effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander consumers and their families/carers, maintaining positive relationships with the local community.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture, society and kinship networks.
