About Murrumbidgee Local Health District

Our organization provides assertive outreach support for communities across regional and rural NSW, working collaboratively with local services during disasters and crises. We aim to ensure that individuals affected by disaster can access timely clinical services to deal with mental health needs.

This role works as part of a whole of government response to disasters, including:

  • Collaborating with existing health services, regional hospitals, and emergency services agencies in fire-affected communities.
  • Working within a stepped care framework in collaboration with general practitioners, allied health professionals, schools, public mental health services, and private psychologists and psychiatrists.
  • Closely working with Primary Health Networks to ensure people can access the right level of mental health care for their individual needs.

The objectives of our program are to:

  • Ensure individuals affected by disaster can access appropriate and timely clinical services to deal with mental health needs arising from the fire.
  • Target vulnerable population groups across the region.
  • Ensure emergency services staff and volunteers can access appropriate and timely clinical services to deal with mental health needs arising from the fires.

A key function will be planning for the transfer of care for any service users requiring ongoing mental health treatment and care.
