Job Profile

The Senior Environmental Health Lead plays a pivotal role in upholding public and environmental health standards across South Australia. This position assumes responsibility for specialist, statutory duties in Out-of-Council Areas, providing frontline service delivery for Public Health Planning and Response.

Main Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough food safety inspections and audits to ensure compliance
  • Regulate and inspect wastewater systems, public swimming pools, and manufactured water systems to guarantee safety standards
  • Develop and implement regulatory and non-regulatory programs to enhance environmental health standards

Key Qualifications

  • A relevant qualification as an environmental health officer (EHO)
  • Certification as a National Food Safety Auditor Level 4 or willingness to undertake necessary training
  • Ability to travel extensively throughout the state, including remote and Aboriginal communities

Working Environment

  • Work independently, exercising delegated powers and functions under public health legislation
  • May be required to work out of hours and overnight in remote locations
