Delicatessen Buyer Opportunity

Talent Focus is seeking an experienced Delicatessen Buyer to join our team in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). This role involves sourcing, selecting, and managing a diverse range of premium products to meet the discerning tastes of our customers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Vendor Liaison and Management:
    • Develop and maintain strong relationships with reputable suppliers and wholesalers of specialty meats, cheeses, and deli goods.
    • Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts with vendors to ensure competitive pricing and product quality.
    • Collaborate closely with vendor representatives to stay updated on new products and industry trends.
  • Stock Inventory Control and Management:
    • Monitor and manage stock levels to ensure optimal inventory control, including ordering and replenishment processes.
    • Conduct regular stock takes to maintain accurate inventory records and address any discrepancies promptly.
    • Implement effective stock rotation practices to minimise waste and ensure product freshness.
  • Product Selection and Quality Assurance:
    • Evaluate and select products based on quality, authenticity, and customer demand, focusing on European deli specialties.
    • Ensure all products meet stringent food safety and quality standards, adhering to relevant regulations and certifications.
    • Conduct regular quality checks and audits to uphold product excellence and customer satisfaction.
  • Market Analysis and Strategy:
    • Stay abreast of market trends, consumer preferences, and competitor offerings in the European deli sector within the ACT market.
    • Analyse sales data and customer feedback to identify opportunities for product expansion and improvement.
    • Develop and execute strategic initiatives to enhance product assortment and drive sales growth.
  • Customer Engagement and Promotion:
    • Collaborate with the marketing team to promote deli products through effective merchandising, in-store displays, and promotional campaigns.
    • Provide training and support to store staff on product knowledge, ensuring exceptional customer service standards.
Qualifications:
  • Proven experience as a buyer or similar role in the food industry, specifically with deli products, cheeses, and meats.
  • Strong negotiation skills and vendor management experience.
  • Excellent understanding of inventory control, stock management, and logistics processes.
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and food quality control standards.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
About You:
  • Permanent Working Rights (Resident/Australian Citizen)
  • Grocer buying experience, high-end deli or gourmet food environment.
  • Familiarity with grocer retail market dynamics and consumer preferences.
  • Proven experience as a buyer or in a related role within the food industry, especially with specialty deli products and European cuts of meat and cheese.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, customer-focused retail environment.
