Clinical interventionists play a vital role in healthcare, especially for preschool-age children with autism. They are part of an interprofessional team that facilitates goal-setting processes with families, conducts assessments related to these goals, and develops, implements, and coordinates resulting intervention programs.
The Provincial Preschool Autism Service is responsible for providing person- and family-centred services to preschoolers across Nova Scotia who are suspected of or have a diagnosis of autism. These services include:
- Clinical intake and care coordination
- Family and health professional education
- QuickStart NS parent coaching toddler program
- Autism diagnostic assessment
- Interprofessional autism interventions
- A 12-month intensive intervention for children with the greatest social communication and behaviour needs
- Transition to school supports
Clinical Interventionists work with an interprofessional team to provide services to preschool-age children with autism. This includes facilitating goal-setting processes with families, conducting assessments related to these goals, and developing, implementing, and coordinating resulting intervention programs. The ideal candidate will possess a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology, Speech Language Pathology, Occupational Therapy, or BCBA, as well as registration or eligibility for registration with the appropriate professional body in Nova Scotia. They will also have two years' recent experience working with children with autism (ages 0-6) and their families.
The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in clinical care, ability to provide assessment and development of intervention plans, and ability to work within an interprofessional collaborative practice framework and independently. They will also possess excellent presentation, facilitation, and communication skills, as well as excellent interpersonal skills and ability to develop and maintain partnerships.
