About the Retail Strategy Manager Role

This is a key leadership position within UNSW Australia's Estate Management team, reporting to the Director of Asset Planning. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing the University's retail strategy across its various campuses.

The role requires a strategic thinker with expertise in retail management, leasing, and marketing. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in leading and managing retail precincts, as well as strong analytical skills and proficiency in data interpretation.

The Retail Strategy Manager will play a pivotal role in fostering strong retail partnerships to deliver a world-class campus experience for students, staff, and visitors. This includes curating the ideal tenancy mix, managing leasing transactions, and devising marketing plans to enhance the overall retail experience.

In this role, you will work closely with internal teams, including Design, Development & Delivery, and Facilities Management, to ensure seamless collaboration and effective communication.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop a comprehensive retail strategy aligned with the university's mission, campus culture, and long-term goals
  • Identify suitable retail partners and negotiate lease agreements that complement the university's objectives and cater to the diverse needs of the community
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to assess demand for various retail offerings and optimise the mix accordingly
  • Utilise market research, demographic data, and consumer behaviour insights to understand the needs and preferences of the university community
  • Monitor performance metrics and feedback to continually refine the tenancy mix and ensure a vibrant and sustainable retail environment
  • Stay updated on market dynamics and leasing trends to capitalise on emerging opportunities and mitigate risks

Requirements:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Business, Real Estate, Marketing or a related field
  • Extensive experience in leading and managing retail precincts, developing retail strategies and approaches to retail mix
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in data interpretation, market trend analysis, and financial analysis
  • Excellent consultation, influencing, and negotiation skills and proven ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders
  • Demonstrated strategic thinker with a creative mindset and a passion for innovation
