Director, Counsel, Business Legal

Western Union is seeking an experienced legal professional to join its Business Legal Affairs team in Sydney, Australia. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the company's commercial and corporate law strategy across Asia Pacific (APAC) and the Middle East.

  • This position plays a key role in supporting strategic initiatives and business operations by providing timely and commercial legal support.
  • As part of the APAC & Middle East Legal Team, you will be assigned primary responsibility for certain workstreams and collaborate with other team members as needed.

The ideal candidate will have 6+ years of experience in financial services, preferably in an international law firm or corporate legal department of a multi-national corporation.

Key skills sought include the ability to promptly assess and react to business incidents or events, clearly identify and articulate relevant legal questions and concerns, and provide commercially minded solutions.

A Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA-accredited school of law or equivalent is required, as well as admission to at least one state bar in Australia or a key country in the APAC or Middle East region.

The successful candidate will be based in Sydney, reporting directly to the Managing Associate General Counsel for Business Legal Affairs, APAC & Middle East.
