Mechanical Design Engineer

About the Role:
Mexec is seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the activities of a cross-functional team in the development of intricate mechanical components for our microscopic imaging solutions. As a key technical role, this position requires a strong background in mechanical engineering, project management, and experience with CAD, CAM, and precision fabrication methods.
Key Responsibilities:
- Full design cycle of mechanical components, including interfaces for electrical, electronics, and optical subsystems.
- Liaising with subcontractors and suppliers to source parts and services.
- Conducting R&D by building, modifying, and testing prototype opto-electro-mechanical parts.
- Inspection, assembly, and testing of components and systems.
- Assisting in managing internal and external projects relating to R&D and manufacturing.
- Supporting the in-house manufacturing team with their day-to-day activities and ongoing projects.
- Maintaining detailed, accurate technical documentation of all design and assembly processes.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and registration as an engineer in Victoria, or equivalent.
- At least 5+ years of experience in mechanical design and project management.
- Expertise in 2D and 3D CAD modeling software, and experience in FEA/FEM and simulations.
- Knowledge of CAD, CAM, and precision fabrication methods.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with optics, electro-mechanical systems, mechatronics, will be advantageous.
- Prior experience in medical device development, or experience in working in an ISO13485, ISO9001 or similar regulated industry is desirable.
