About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Postdoctoral Research Associate to join our team at Diamond Light Source. As a key member of our research team, you will be responsible for conducting cutting-edge research in the field of x-ray spectroscopy and heterogeneous catalysis.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in soft x-ray techniques, including x-ray absorption and photoemission spectroscopy. Experience in ambient-pressure spectroscopies and research areas such as heterogeneous catalysis or clusters is highly desirable.

You will be working with our state-of-the-art size-selected cluster source and other instrumentation available at Diamond, including X-ray spectroscopy and TEM. Your primary objective will be to refine the research programme within this area, coordinate beamtime proposals, and carry out experiments at beamlines and in the laboratory.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Operating and further developing the beamline's size-selected cluster programme.
  • Supporting users and in-house researchers using the cluster source.
  • Periodically reviewing the relevant literature.
  • Synthesising nano-catalysts and studying size effects in heterogeneous catalysis.
  • Maintaining contact with national and international project partners.
