Job Description:

This is an excellent opportunity for a highly experienced Senior In-House Legal Advisor to join our busy, hardworking, and collaborative legal team.

The successful applicant will be responsible for providing timely, high-quality legal advice to senior executives and key decision-makers on contract, commercial, and intellectual property law matters relating to research activities and other intellectual property interests and transactions of the University.

You will work closely with senior stakeholders, including the Vice-Chancellor, Provost, and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation), to ensure that all legal issues are properly addressed and resolved.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing advice on legal issues relating to contract, commercial, and intellectual property law matters;
  • Managing the provision of legal services outsourced to external legal providers to ensure value for money, quality, and timeliness of work produced;
  • Providing legal advice in relation to the development and implementation of policies and procedures and legislative programs as required.
Required Skills and Qualifications:

The ideal candidate must be admitted as a Solicitor or Barrister of the Supreme Court of Queensland with demonstrated relevant expertise and experience. Additionally, you will demonstrate extensive experience in commercial, contract, and intellectual property law, ability to draft a wide variety of legal documents, handle and resolve complex legal issues, and achieve results through sound judgement skills and commercial acumen.

The successful applicant must also have strong written and oral communication skills, as well as demonstrated interpersonal and negotiation skills to effectively communicate and liaise with a diverse range of clients and stakeholders.
