Opportunity Overview

An exciting opportunity is available for a Senior Sub-transmission Planning Engineer to take a pivotal role in planning our electricity sub-transmission network, which supports over 802,000 customers across various regions.

This position offers a hybrid work model (Office/WFH) and is situated within the Network Strategy & Planning team. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Conducting thorough network planning assessments to evaluate current capabilities and identify potential limitations, while developing strategic solutions and contingency plans.
  2. Applying probabilistic planning criteria to formulate economically viable solutions for emerging constraints within the sub-transmission network.
  3. Strategizing for a sustainable energy future by considering macro trends in the energy sector and the implications of climate change.
  4. Providing timely and high-quality technical inputs for Transmission Revenue Reset (TRR) and Electricity Distribution Price Review (EDPR).
  5. Creating and disseminating periodic planning reports, ensuring compliance with regulatory obligations for the sub-transmission network.
  6. Formulating network investment plans and proposals that support regulatory submissions and program execution.
Qualifications and Skills

While we understand that not every candidate will meet all criteria, we are looking for a combination of the following:

  1. A degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
  2. A strong passion for facilitating the energy transition while meeting current customer energy needs.
  3. Expertise in contemporary electricity network planning and asset management practices.
  4. Significant experience in the energy sector, preferably within utility environments.
  5. Proficiency in electricity network analysis tools or relevant software (e.g., PSSE, PSCAD, PowerFactory, Sincal) and the ability to interpret analytical results.
  6. Familiarity with National Electricity Rules, Electricity Distribution Code, and relevant laws and regulations.
  7. Understanding of primary plant, line assets, network protection, control devices, and protection schemes.
