The Queensland Government is seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to fill the position of Head of Department - Science at Cairns School of Distance Education.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the School Department: Develop, articulate, and commit to a shared educational vision focused on providing quality learning outcomes for all students.
- Drive Data-Informed Practice: Utilize data to inform instructional decisions and drive student achievement.
- Curriculum Development: Lead the delivery of a quality assured V9.0 rollout of the Australian Curriculum for years and ensure the implementation of a quality assured curriculum and assessment in senior Science.
- Mentor and Coach Staff: Provide guidance and support to staff to improve pedagogy in the science curriculum area and build an expert teaching team.
- Set High Standards: Establish and maintain high standards for student and staff performance.
- Embed Socially Just Practices: Foster an inclusive and equitable learning environment that promotes socially just practices in daily school life.
- Lifelong Learning: Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in education.
- Community Partnerships: Form partnerships with students, parents, other government agencies, and community groups to support student learning.
- Resource Management: Effectively manage human, financial, facilities, and curriculum resources to achieve departmental goals.
- A strong understanding of the Australian Curriculum and senior Science subjects.
- Excellent leadership and management skills.
- Ability to drive data-informed practice and improve student achievement.
- Experience in curriculum development and implementation.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, and the community.
