Financial Accountant Job Description

We are an economic regulator accelerating carbon abatement in Australia, administering schemes that contribute to the Australian Government climate target of reducing emissions to 43% below 2005 levels by 2030 and Net Zero by 2050.

About This Role

The Corporate branch seeks a Financial Accountant to join the Finance section within the Finance Reporting Team. The team provides professional and client-focused services to staff and external stakeholders.

The APS Level 6 Financial Accountant will be responsible for:

  • Preparing Monthly and Annual Financial Statements
  • Managing Coordination of Monthly Tasks
  • Maintaining Asset Register and Capitalisation
  • Providing Expert Advice on Asset Management Practices
  • Preparing Debt Management Reports

  • Undertaking Other Financial Administrative Tasks

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the team to deliver high-quality financial activities, ensuring timely and accurate provision of information. As part of this role, you will be responsible for preparing monthly and annual financial statements in accordance with Accounting Standards and other guidance. You will also manage coordination of monthly tasks including preparation and entering of journals and account reconciliations and reports. Additionally, you will maintain the agency's asset register, capitalisation, disposals, depreciation processing, and annual stocktake. In this position, you will provide expert advice on asset management practices, promoting sound financial stewardship and compliance with relevant frameworks. Furthermore, you will prepare debt management reports for senior management and audit committee meetings. Your key responsibilities will include contribution to financial policies and practices ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, and undertaking other financial administrative tasks as directed, including taxation, banking, and reporting requests.
