The team operates in a fast-paced, technically complex environment and values collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.About the RoleThe Deputy Chief Engineer provides technical leadership across multiple product teams, supporting the delivery of secure and reliable systems.
The role bridges engineering execution and strategic oversight, with responsibility for cyber security operations, test and evaluation, and architectural guidance.This is a Canberra-based position.DutiesProvide architectural and design guidance across a suite of ICT productsLead cyber security and test & evaluation functionsSupport DevSecOps practices and release processesMentor junior engineers in areas such as virtualisation, containerisation, and secure developmentInvestigate technical incidents and emerging technologies, providing advice to senior leadershipReview and approve product designs in line with assurance frameworksContribute to documentation, reporting, and stakeholder engagementSkills & ExperienceEssential:Degree in Engineering (Software Engineering preferred), Computer Science, or ITSAFe Practitioner certification (can be completed upon engagement)Experience with DevSecOps, CI/CD pipelines, and secure software developmentStrong background in Windows/Linux environments, virtualisation, and containerisationNetwork engineering knowledge, including SDN and security practicesExperience in software testing and evaluation, including tools like Zephyr SquadsFamiliarity with Australian Government security frameworks (e.g., ISM)Department of Defence experienceDesirable:Certifications such as CDP, CISSP, or ISTQB Advanced Test ManagerExperience in systems engineering, SIEM, threat detection, and vulnerability managementKnowledge of SCAP, STIG, CIS standards, and MITRE ATT&CKAgile/Scrum delivery experienceSecurity Clearance:Must be an Australian citizenAbility to obtain and maintain an NV1 clearance or higherHow to applyCandidates must be Australian Citizens with a currentAGSVANegative Vetting 1 Security Clearance.If you would like to discuss further, please contactSteph Garrard - (emailprotected) .
