Framestore is a leading global creative company that excels in various fields such as film, advertising, AR/MR/VR, theme park dark rides, and pre/post visualisation work.

We are seeking a highly skilled Groom Artist to join our team in creating exceptional hair, fur, and feather grooms for characters and creatures in high-end VFX film projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Design and develop high-quality hair, fur, and feather grooms using Framestore's proprietary grooming tools.
  2. Closely collaborate with Creature FX simulation TDs to ensure accurate requirements for dynamics and guide hairs.
  3. Communicate effectively with other departments, including Modelling, Rigging, Animation, and Lighting, to ensure seamless creature workflow.
  4. Produce render tests to showcase the groom's progress and meet set schedules and deadlines.
  5. Regularly update Production and Leads on schedules and deadlines while maintaining the highest standards.

Essential Skills:

  1. Previous experience in a similar role with a strong understanding of grooming techniques.
  2. Proven track record of working on CG creature projects with attention to detail.
  3. Excellent knowledge of Maya and its applications in grooming.
  4. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
  5. Aesthetic and technical understanding of the role with a keen eye for detail.
  6. Strong work ethic and willingness to be involved in both development and shot execution.
  7. Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented and deadline-driven environment.
  8. Good understanding of pipeline and workflow issues.
  9. Excellent organisation, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Desirable Skills:

  1. Experience working in a Unix/Linux systems environment.
  2. Knowledge of dynamic hair simulation or other forms of dynamics.
