Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Legal and Risk Manager to join our team. This is a vital role that plays a key part in safeguarding our reputation and operations.

This position provides expert legal, governance, and risk management advice to senior leadership, staff, and the Board of Directors.

The ideal candidate will have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate legal and risk concepts into practical advice.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain risk management frameworks and strategies
  • Conduct risk assessments and provide regular reports to the Board and senior leadership
  • Review, draft, and negotiate contracts and agreements
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and manage compliance audits and regulatory queries
  • Provide ongoing support with the governance of our contract management system
  • Build a risk-aware culture within the organisation through training and communication
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external legal counsel

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Tertiary qualification in Law, with current admission as a legal practitioner in Australia
  • Additional qualifications in Risk Management, Governance or Compliance are highly regarded
  • Demonstrated experience (5+ years) in providing in-house legal counsel, preferably in a not-for-profit or membership organisation
  • Proven ability to develop and implement organisational risk frameworks and management strategies
  • Strong expertise in contract law and regulatory compliance, including drafting and negotiating complex agreements
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to engage effectively with a range of stakeholders, including Boards
  • Proven organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities within a part-time capacity
  • Deep understanding of Australian governance, legal, and compliance frameworks
  • Familiarity with the regulatory landscape relevant to not-for-profit or membership organisations
