Electrical Design Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Design Specialist to join our team.

This position will support the Technical Director in leading and overseeing the design of medium voltage systems for data centre projects.

The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of MV systems, relevant Australian Standards and electrical design software.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Technical Director with monitoring engineering/CAD resource requirements for each project within your control.
  • Lead and deliver the concept and detailed design of MV substation primary systems.
  • Primary systems design - produce SLDs, HV substation layouts, equipment/materials lists, clearance checks, and short circuit force calculations.
  • Carry out engineering concept design to detailed design, tender and contract on site supervision to completion, ensuring projects are undertaken in accordance with design briefs and that completion deadlines are achieved.
  • Liaise with the design team to produce coordinated designs that are technically compliant, to a consistent quality and standard.
  • Provide positive contribution to design/project meetings.
  • Maintain regular 'in house' design reviews and checks.
  • Monitor and control project progress, design variations and project financial budgets.
  • Monitor contract staff or third-party appointments.
  • Maintain excellent client and design team relationships to achieve high levels of satisfaction and repeat business.
  • Pursue new business opportunities where appropriate with existing and new clients.

Required Skills and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Strong knowledge of MV systems and relevant Australian Standards.
  • Consulting experience is a must.
  • Mission Critical Design/Data Centre Design Experience is an added advantage.
  • Familiar with electrical proprietary software such as ETAP, Vipcodia, Power Cad etc is an added advantage.
  • Successful project management experience in the MEP sector is an added advantage.

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate will also have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with an Electrical emphasis.
  • A minimum of 10 years experience in electrical design of buildings (lighting/power/systems); Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Extensive knowledge of building electrical power, lighting and signal design, including life safety systems and building management systems.
  • Strong computer knowledge of Microsoft Office and Auto CAD, and electrical design software.
