About the Role

This position will provide expert advice to our underwriters on risk quality, loss estimates, and loss prevention measures for our mining business. As a key member of our global Risk Engineering Services community, you will work closely with underwriters and other internal and external clients to identify and mitigate risks.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting insurance risk engineering surveys and providing technical advice to our customers in the Australia and APAC region;
  • Working with our mining underwriters to provide risk engineering technical advice on risk quality, loss estimates, natural hazard exposures, capacity allocation, and loss prevention measures for mid to large mining accounts;
  • Assuming the role as an account risk engineer for selected accounts on which Swiss Re provides lead capacity;
  • Carrying out on-site risk inspections and operations reviews on behalf of underwriters;
  • Interacting with customers, brokers, and underwriters regularly;
  • Providing risk engineering consultation to our managed customers in the form of insurance risk surveys, risk improvement recommendations, loss mitigation proposals, and specifications;
  • Formulating risk improvement recommendations to assist clients in improving the risk quality of their assets.

About You

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced professional with a strong background in mining engineering, risk management, or a related field. You should have a proven track record of working in the mining industry, with experience in risk engineering, loss prevention, and technical risk management.

Key qualifications include:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field (mining, mechanical, electrical engineering, geology, process engineering);
  • Proven experience in the Mining industry (mining/process unit leader, design, commissioning, maintenance, or inspection, project superintendent);
  • Previous experience as a mining insurance risk engineer at a broker, insurance company, or loss adjuster would be a plus;
  • Experience and strong interest in loss prevention topics (fire protection, machinery breakdown, business continuity, technical risk management);
  • Sound knowledge of local and international loss prevention and fire protection standards (NFPA or equivalent);
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and presenting skills, an entrepreneurial attitude, and a service mindset;
  • Good team player approach;
  • High analytical capacity and focus on details;
  • Willingness to travel within Australia and on a limited basis in the APAC region;
  • Excellent Business and Technical English (essential), any other language would be advantageous.
