As a Fire Tower Base Operator, you play a vital role in the early detection and monitoring of fires within forest plantations and surrounding communities.

About the Role

This position requires you to support and communicate with Fire Tower operators, monitor team members' safety, and report relevant information to stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supporting Fire Operations: Assist in determining location, size, direction, and fire behavior by communicating with Fire Tower operators.
  • Maintaining Safety: Monitor the wellbeing of team members at all times and ensure their safety is paramount.
  • Incident Reporting: Communicate with fire incident control, record, collate, and report relevant information to stakeholders.
  • Training Coordination: Coordinate internal and external training delivery for tower operators and logistics teams.
  • Operational Tasks: Assist with operational tasks and administration duties using established systems and processes.
Requirements:
  • Safety Focus: Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety and wellbeing.
  • Relevant Experience: Possess relevant experience in fire response, firefighting/supervision, or emergency services operations preferably within the forestry industry.
  • Map Reading Skills: Have an interest in map reading and navigation.
  • FIRE Weather Knowledge: Be able to read weather monitoring devices and understand fire weather characteristics.
  • Communication Skills: Confidence in operating two-way radios and communications equipment, as well as IT systems and technology applications.
  • Autonomy: Ability to work autonomously and unsupervised when required.

This role involves a pre-employment medical/functional capacity evaluation and a fitness assessment. The successful applicant must be available to commence in late October or early November in preparation for the Fire season.
