  • As a claims specialist, you will be responsible for investigating, reserving and adjusting claims in a timely and effective manner. You will work closely with clients to understand their needs and develop solutions that meet their expectations.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze first reports of claim, suit or underlying material to determine nature of loss, coverage provided and scope of damage
  • Conduct or direct needed investigation relative to all aspects of reported claims. Secure and/or file all supporting documentation and verify same for accuracy, relationship and completeness
  • Establish accurate and timely reserves
  • Maintain active diary to achieve timely development of file and timely disposition
  • Provide exceptional service standards in line with best practice guidelines
  • Practice sound litigation controls over counsel
  • Promptly and properly document all developments in claim file
  • Meet with appropriate parties to litigation or claims, as necessary, to resolve issues
  • Effectively communicate with various stakeholders, including claim department, customer services, loss control, underwriting departments, brokers, insureds, counsel, third parties and/or their legal representatives
  • May direct claim representatives to participate in file development and subrogation
  • Adhere to relevant statutory rules and regulations
  • Exercise good judgment in reaching final disposition of claim by evaluating nature of loss, liability, injury/damage, coverage provided and applicable limits

 

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • A tertiary qualification (law degree desirable but not required)
  • Claims experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills relative to claims handling
  • Insurance policies and the Insurance Contracts Act knowledge
  • Legal requirements and regulations understanding
  • Damage and/or loss evaluation skills
  • Negotiation skills
  • Industry trends awareness
  • Litigation procedures knowledge
  • Reserving skills
  • Chubb Claims Philosophy understanding
