Staff Specialist - 0.2FTE Permanent Position

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced medical professional to fill a permanent position in our team.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a Staff Specialist to join our department as a 0.2FTE permanent employee from November 2025 onwards.

You will be responsible for providing expert medical assessment and management of patients within the department/service, working closely with a senior medical officer to review patients, determine a management plan, and follow the patient through their HITH admission.

Key Responsibilities
  • Medical Assessment and Management: Provide expert medical assessment and management of patients within the department/service.
  • Patient Admission: Admitting patients will be overseen by a senior medical officer who will review patients, determine a management plan, and follow the patient through their HITH admission.
  • Communication: Communicate with referring medical officers and the HITH team; work as part of a multidisciplinary health care team across multiple sites.
  • Clinical Care: Demonstrate a high standard of clinical care in the public sector setting and contribute to quality improvement activities relevant to the specialty.
Requirements
  • Registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA): Registration or eligibility for registration with AHPRA is required.
  • Specialist Recognition: Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) and/or equivalent specialist recognition is necessary, with demonstrated subspecialty training in General Medicine and/or Geriatric Medicine.
  • Continuing Education: Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices aligned with the position's scope is essential.
  • Quality Improvement: Proven capacity and/or experience delivering high-quality service in the specialty, involvement in quality improvement activities is required.
  • Teaching: Commitment to teaching with experience in undergraduate and postgraduate education and training of hospital staff is necessary.
  • Leadership and Communication: Demonstrated professional behaviour, leadership, and ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and across multiple sites, strong communication with patients and colleagues is essential.
  • Research: Experience in and commitment to research relevant to the department's needs is desired.
