Job Overview

This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate and dynamic Nurse Leader to take on a pivotal role in the operational direction of a ward.

You will support both the Director of Nursing and General Manager as part of a hospital's broader leadership team.

As the Nurse Unit Manager, you will lead the unit's operations to ensure efficient and effective management, foster a culture of excellence in patient and family-centred care, and provide mentorship and support to your team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the unit's operations to ensure efficient and effective management

  • Provide mentorship and support to your team
  • Manage human, financial, and material resources effectively
  • Deliver direct patient care when required
  • Ensure compliance with NSQHS Standards

This role requires a strong understanding of mental health, particularly in adult and older persons care, and hospital workflows. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of building high-performing teams and have excellent communication skills—both written and verbal.

Requirements
  • Current AHPRA registration
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in inpatient mental health settings
  • Familiarity with NSQHS/ACHS Standards and HoNOS
  • Proven leadership in building high-performing teams
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills
  • Sound understanding of labour management and private health funding
  • High level of computer literacy (MS Office and relevant databases)
