Job Description

As a Horticulturist, you will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing public spaces, including sports fields, turf wickets, and garden beds. This role requires performing various horticultural and maintenance services while upholding workplace health, safety, and environmental standards.

This is a 12-month supported program that provides continuous assistance throughout your journey.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Maintain sports fields, turf wickets, and garden beds to ensure they remain safe and aesthetically pleasing.
  • Perform daily street cleaning tasks, including mowing, planting, mulching, fertilising, spraying herbicides/pesticides, and watering to keep our public spaces clean and well-maintained.
Horticultural Services:
  • Provide expert horticultural and landscaping services, including mowing, planting, mulching, fertilising, spraying herbicides/pesticides, and watering to enhance the beauty of our public spaces.
Planning and Execution:
  • Interpret instructions provided by maintenance teams to ensure tasks are completed effectively and efficiently.
Equipment Maintenance:
  • Clean and maintain trucks and plant equipment regularly to prevent breakdowns and ensure smooth operations.
Safety and Compliance:
  • Commit to adhering to council policies and guidelines related to workplace health, safety, and environmental systems.
Requirements and Attributes:
  • Willingness to complete a Certificate III in Horticulture to further develop your skills and knowledge.
  • Genuine interest in horticulture and enjoyment of working in outdoor environments.
  • Physical capacity to walk, bend, lift, and perform repetitive tasks as required.
  • Ability to represent the council professionally when dealing with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong communication skills and a positive attitude toward teamwork.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and a willingness to learn and apply them effectively.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will require the following skills and qualifications:

  • Certificate III in Horticulture or equivalent qualification.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of horticultural practices and principles.
