Submarine Mechanical Design Engineer

We are seeking a skilled Submarine Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our Platform Design team, you will play a vital role in the design and development of submarine mechanical systems.

About the Role
  • You will be responsible for delivering high-quality mechanical designs and drafting tasks to agreed program commitments.
  • Undertake design activities in accordance with established industry standards.
  • Produce 2D engineering drawings utilising 3D model information for components through to installation drawings.
Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver mechanical, structural, and piping system design and drafting tasks to agreed program commitments.
  • Undertake design activities in accordance with ASC processes, ensuring engineering outputs comply with established industry standards e.g. AS1100 / DEF (AUST) 5085
  • Produce high quality 2D engineering drawings utilising 3D model information for components through to installation drawings.
  • Creation of parts lists and weight impact sheets for all designs.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring of colleagues, sharing your technical knowledge to support the growth and capability of our growing team.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines and departments across the organisation to assist with delivery of engineering products and services.
  • Provide regular task updates, escalating blockages and ensuring alignment with project priorities and objectives.
  • Seek better ways of working, that drive improvement in relation to program cost, schedule and quality.
Requirements
  • A tertiary qualification in a related Engineering discipline is highly regarded.
  • Trade experience/qualification is advantageous.
  • A degree in a related Engineering field is desirable.
  • Experience in design and integration of complex systems, including preparation of production level drawings and documentation.
  • Proven ability in the use of AutoCAD to produce 2D drawings and Autodesk Inventor 3D is favourable.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Adaptability to manage multiple design activities concurrently whilst still delivering work on time and within budget.
  • Proven experience leading a team of designers and engineers to manage complex engineering project deliverables.
  • Knowledge of configuration systems and the role of configuration management in the design process.
