Job Opportunity: Chief Environmental Policy Strategist

This is a key leadership position that presents an excellent opportunity to manage a team focused on improving environmental data and information. The purpose of this role is to provide strategic direction and oversight to ensure the successful delivery of high-quality environmental data and products.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead a Team: Manage a team dedicated to delivering environmental data and strategic products that support regulatory decision-making and improved environmental outcomes.
  • Manage Partnerships: Develop and maintain partnerships across government, academia, industry, and community stakeholders to achieve environmental objectives.
  • Mentor and Support Staff: Provide guidance and support to scientific and policy staff, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Represent Department: Represent the department at interagency forums, conferences, and workshops, contributing to biodiversity policy development and reform.
  • Communicate Effectively: Communicate and promote policy initiatives through briefings, workshops, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Ensure Outcomes: Ensure branch outcomes are aligned with departmental strategic goals and are delivered on time.
About You:

To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate:

  • Strong Knowledge: Strong knowledge of Western Australian environmental legislation, policies, and government processes.
  • Strategic Policy Experience: Extensive experience in strategic environmental policy and delivering evidence-based technical advice.
  • Communication Skills: High-level communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Project Management: Proven project management capability with a track record of delivering complex initiatives.
  • Leadership Skills: Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to develop and motivate high-performing teams.
