Key Responsibilities

As a Lecturer in Aboriginal Health at The University of Western Australia, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality teaching and research in Aboriginal Health to the School of Medicine programs. This will involve:

  • Providing academic support to Indigenous students, including mentoring and guidance.
  • Contributing to the development of Aboriginal Studies areas, including curriculum design and delivery.
  • Collaborating with other academics and researchers to advance knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal Health issues.
  • Engaging with community stakeholders to ensure that the Centre's work is relevant and responsive to the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate:

  • A relevant tertiary degree related to medicine, health, or education.
  • Experience in teaching on Aboriginal Health issues and a strong understanding of the political, economic, social, cultural, and environmental determinants affecting the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and people.
  • Experience working with Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people in education settings.
  • A deep understanding of policies, programs, and health service responses to Aboriginal Health issues, including those implemented by Commonwealth and State governments, and Indigenous and non-Indigenous health services organisations.
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of the education and training needs of Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people working in health services in rural and remote areas.
  • Established networks within Western Australian Aboriginal communities.
  • Aboriginality is an essential selection criterion under section 50D of the Equal Opportunity Act.
