Job Title: Lecturer (Aboriginal Health)

Under the direction of the Director, Centre for Aboriginal Medical and Dental Health (CAMDH), this position undertakes independent teaching and research in Aboriginal Health to the School of Medicine programs. This will involve responsibility for Indigenous student support, contribution in other Aboriginal Studies areas, as well as contribution to other courses, programs, and administrative roles that the Centre has responsibility for.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and deliver teaching programs in Aboriginal Health to the School of Medicine programs.
  • Conduct research in Aboriginal Health and contribute to the development of policies and programs related to Indigenous health.
  • Provide support to Indigenous students and contribute to the development of Aboriginal Studies areas.
  • Contribute to other courses, programs, and administrative roles that the Centre has responsibility for.
Requirements:
  • Relevant tertiary degree related to medicine, health, or education.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching on Aboriginal Health issues and a good understanding of the political, economic, social, cultural, and environmental determinants affecting the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and people.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people in education settings.
  • Demonstrated understanding of all policies, program, and health service responses to these issues by Commonwealth and State governments, and Indigenous and non-Indigenous health services organisations.
  • Demonstrated theoretical and practical understanding of the education and training needs of Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people working in health services in rural and remote areas.
  • Evidence of established networks within the Western Australian Aboriginal communities.
  • Aboriginality is an essential selection criterion under section 50D of the Equal Opportunity Act.
