Telecommunications Engineer - Power and Mining

We are seeking a skilled Telecommunications Engineer to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual to contribute to the development of cutting-edge telecommunications systems in remote mining environments.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with private LTE networks, microwave, and IP/MPLS solutions, as well as expertise in Cisco and Nokia technologies. They will be responsible for deploying and commissioning next-generation telecommunications systems, designing integrated solutions for autonomous haulage and IoT sensor networks, and providing on-site network optimization and technical support.

This role offers the chance to work at the heart of Industry 4.0, integrating advanced technologies to deliver real-time connectivity for Tier 1 miners and energy providers. The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic and innovative team that enables mission-critical connectivity in the mining and energy sectors.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deploy and commission private LTE, microwave, and IP/MPLS hardware in open-pit and underground mining sites
  • Design integrated solutions for autonomous haulage, SCADA, and IoT sensor networks
  • Provide on-site network optimization, troubleshooting, and technical support
  • Conduct FAT and FIT testing in simulated mining conditions with clients
  • Analyse RF coverage, microwave links, and IP/MPLS performance metrics
  • Optimise network performance using tools like TEMS, Nemo, Cisco DNA Centre, and Nokia NSP
  • Implement security best practices for LTE, microwave, and Cisco/Nokia networks
  • Integrate telecommunications networks with SCADA systems using Modbus, DNP3, and IEC 61850
Requirements:
  • Deep expertise in private LTE, microwave, and IP/MPLS (Cisco and Nokia)
  • Experience with Cisco IOS XE/XR and Nokia SR OS (preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of IP protocols: OSPF, BGP, IS-IS, MPLS
  • Familiarity with environmental challenges unique to mining sites
  • Proficiency in RF drive testing and optimisation tools
  • Understanding of SCADA, IoT, and industrial automation systems
  • Willingness to travel frequently to remote mining operations
