Job Title: Assistant Chief Officer - Training and Capability

Job Summary:

The Assistant Chief Officer - Training and Capability is a key leadership role within the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) organization. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of training and capability frameworks, as well as managing the delivery of training programs to enhance bushfire management and operations response capability across the state.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the development of volunteer training frameworks and curriculum to enhance bushfire management and operations response capability.
  • Manage and maintain the development of assurance, compliance, evaluation, and review of frameworks, policies, and procedures.
  • Approve annual training and capability plans to ensure training requirements across the state are met and aligned with broader organizational priorities.
  • Lead and coordinate service-wide strategic and operational planning to build capacity, capability, and preparedness of fire and emergency service delivery.
  • Identify and develop innovation, research, and development initiatives to meet and support operational services' capability and departmental objectives.

Requirements:

  • Must meet the mandatory requirements and attributes as outlined in the generic Rural Fire Service Chief Superintendent role description.
  • Can demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders from rural and remote communities.

Working Arrangements:

This is a day work position, yet may require flexible hours of work to meet functional demands, including working at night on weekends as part of the role.

Incumbents may be required to travel and work within their area of responsibility and may also be required to undertake intrastate and/or interstate deployment and travel.

Incumbents appointed to this position will participate in a personal professional development program developed in conjunction with their supervisor.

Incumbents must have proven commitment to maintaining competencies and operating in a team environment.

Those appointed to a role within the QDMA (Queensland Disaster Management Arrangements) framework will undertake appropriate regular training to maintain their role within RFS as a member of any QDMA appointed position.
