About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Director, Security to join our team at the Office of the Inspector-General of Intelligence and Security (IGIS). As a key member of our Security, Technology and Information Governance team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the security and integrity of our operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the physical security and/or personnel security functions for the IGIS
  • Fulfill the functions of the Agency Security Adviser and/or COMSO roles
  • Identify security risks and implement appropriate, proportionate strategies to effectively manage them
  • Investigate, analyze, and respond to security incidents and provide clear advice and support to the IGIS leadership and staff
  • Oversee the management of IGIS property, including facilities maintenance
  • Foster an effective security culture across the IGIS by educating and engaging personnel on their role and responsibilities in accordance with the evolving security environment
  • Maintain a contemporaneous understanding of the counter-intelligence threat and broader security environment in which the IGIS operates
  • Complete sound, evidence-based recommendation reports for personnel security risk management purposes
  • Coordinate and undertake clearance maintenance activities and provide advice on personnel security matters
  • Lead the development and delivery of the IGIS' insider threat capability, including developing and delivering security-related training to staff

Essential Skills and Experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF) and its application in high-security environments
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement effective security policies across an organization
  • Ability to manage numerous competing priorities and meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively engage with others, gather information, prepare and deliver briefs, and produce relevant, accurate, and timely written reports
  • Strong ability to accurately interpret and analyze information to inform decision-making and/or deliver outcomes
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a high-security workplace and handle sensitive security matters discreetly with sound judgment
Desirable Skills
  • Relevant security qualifications and courses, such as Certificate or Diploma qualifications in Government Security (Personnel Vetting), Government Security (Investigations), and insider threat
  • Experience in, and/or the ability to quickly acquire an understanding of key aspects of property management
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor junior staff
  • Experience in developing and delivering security training to an organization
Security, Suitability, and Integrity Requirements

Positions at IGIS are positions of trust. Appointment depends on the outcome of an employee suitability assessment. Appointment and ongoing employment at the IGIS are subject to a Positive Vetting clearance being granted and maintained. Security vetting may take many months to complete and requires candidates to provide significant information to the vetting authority. In addition, all IGIS staff are required to make annual conflict of interest declarations to ensure the independence and integrity of the agency.
