The Work Health and Safety Manager plays a pivotal role in achieving this goal by developing, implementing, and maintaining effective WHS strategies, policies, and procedures. This includes identifying and managing WHS risks through regular inspections, audits, and ongoing review of the WHS Risk Register.

A strong understanding of relevant legislation, codes of practice, and industry standards is essential for this role. Additionally, hands-on experience managing WHS in high-risk environments is highly valued. The ideal candidate will be able to lead the investigation of incidents and hazards, oversee timely reporting, and drive corrective actions.

Key Accountabilities
  • Develop and implement effective WHS strategies, policies, and procedures in line with legislation and best practice.
  • Identify and manage WHS risks through regular inspections, audits, and ongoing review of the WHS Risk Register.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, including hazardous materials, asbestos management, and psychosocial risk mitigation.
  • Lead the investigation of incidents and hazards, oversee timely reporting, and drive corrective actions.
  • Oversee WHS planning and risk assessments for key events, builds, and bump-outs, including emergency response support.
  • Coordinate inductions, training, and ongoing safety education for staff, contractors, and volunteers.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Work Health and Safety (or a related field) with a solid understanding of relevant legislation, codes of practice, and industry standards.
  • Hands-on experience managing WHS in high-risk environments is highly valued.
  • Strong knowledge of risk identification and control in areas such as crowd safety, contractor management, working at heights, plant and equipment, and hazardous substances.
