The Reads NYC early literacy initiative is a critical component of our work, generously funded by the Pinkerton Foundation. This collaborative effort aims to foster literacy-rich communities and increase the number of children who enter school prepared to learn and sustain academic achievement.
The Program Manager plays a crucial role in overseeing a portfolio of 9 Reads elementary school sites and 10 literacy partner relationships. As the primary liaison between stakeholders, they facilitate planning and execution of initiative-wide and neighborhood literacy events.
Key responsibilities include conducting site visits to identify promising practices, providing written feedback to school-literacy teams, and facilitating monthly reflection and planning sessions with literacy program leads.
Additionally, the Program Manager designs and implements workshops on promising practices in literacy, family engagement, and youth supportive environments. They maintain a calendar to help partners plan their execution of Reads initiative activities and serve as the main point person for the assigned school portfolio.
The ideal candidate will possess a commitment to educational equity, a Bachelor's degree, and at least three years of teaching or related experience in the youth services and/or education field. Strong cultural competence and extensive experience supporting partnerships between schools and community organizations are highly desirable.
